Richardson Canyon Creek Wins 2nd Consecutive State Title!
Repeating a State Championship is achieved only by the elite teams in any sport. TAPPS 3A Volleyball is no exception but, that is exactly what the Lady Cougars accomplished on Saturday November, 8 2008 at the Merrell Center in Katy, TX.
The Lady Cougars defeated Tyler All Saints Episcopal in the championship match, to claim their second consecutive state title following last year’s first in the Richardson, TX school's 34-year history.
The Lady Cougars of Canyon Creek finished the championship run with a 5 - 0 record, including 2 tournament titles. The Lady Cougars’ record for the 2008 campaign was a staggering 45 - 5. "Even though our ladies have awesome talent they always put the team ahead of their personal goals," said head coach Heidi Mullins, who just completed her 11th year leading the Lady Cougars. "The results speak for themselves."
Canyon Creek was paced by four players who were selected to the All-Tournament Team -- Tumua Etimani, Jordan Clampitt, Bailey Clampitt and Laura Cade. Fittingly, Canyon Creek Christian Academy, which is a ministry of Canyon Creek Baptist Church, the City of Richardson, and other community and civic leaders will be honoring the state champions with a “Setting the Pace” Celebration.
The celebration, which is open to all, will take place Sunday November 16, 2008 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Canyon Creek Baptist Church – 2800 Custer Pkwy, Richardson, TX.
